How to Revoke Mint & Freeze Authority on Solana (Pass RugCheck)

When traders evaluate a new Solana token on RugCheck, DexScreener, or Birdeye, the first two audit items they check are Mint Authority and Freeze Authority. If either is active, most automated trading bots and experienced investors will classify the token as a dangerous honeypot risk.

What are Mint & Freeze Authorities?

On Solana, every SPL token mint holds authority addresses that define who can perform administrative actions: * **Mint Authority:** The wallet address capable of minting new supply into existence. * **Freeze Authority:** The wallet address capable of freezing any holder's Associated Token Account, preventing them from transferring or selling.
2

The Danger of Keeping Authorities Active

If a developer retains Mint Authority, they can secretly mint billions of additional tokens and dump them into the Raydium liquidity pool, crashing the price to zero. If they retain Freeze Authority, they can allow buyers to enter but freeze their accounts so they cannot sell (a classic honeypot). For this reason, the decentralized community demands both to be set to `null`.

How Authorities Impact RugCheck Scores

Automated analysis platforms like RugCheck.xyz score tokens based on on-chain risk factors: * **Active Freeze Authority:** Results in an immediate **DANGEROUS** rating. DEX trading terminals (Photon, BullX, Trojan) highlight the token in bright red. * **Active Mint Authority:** Results in a **HIGH RISK** warning. * **Both Revoked:** Rewards the token with a **GOOD / SAFE** score, attracting copy-traders, snipers, and whale investors.

How to Revoke Authorities (Step-by-Step)

1. Go to [`/revoke-authority`](/revoke-authority). 2. Connect the creator wallet that currently holds the authorities. 3. Paste your token's **Mint Address**. 4. Select **Revoke Freeze Authority** and click confirm. The authority is permanently reassigned to address `null`. 5. Select **Revoke Mint Authority** and click confirm. 6. Refresh RugCheck or DexScreener—your token will immediately update to verified safe status.
5

When Should You Revoke Permissions?

Best practice is to revoke authorities **immediately after minting and before launching your liquidity pool or presale**. This guarantees that the supply is fixed and no honeypot code exists before the first public dollar enters the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I undo revoking mint or freeze authority?

No. Revoking is mathematically irreversible on the Solana blockchain. Once set to null, nobody on Earth can ever re-enable them.

Does revoking authorities cost a lot of SOL?

No. A revocation is just a standard Solana transaction costing less than 0.0005 SOL in network gas fees.
